You’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight\, smell\, and taste\, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately\, and make food and wine pairings. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin. \n\nWSET Level 1 Information \nWho should take the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines Course?\n\nYou are a wine enthusiast who wish to gain a hands-on introduction into the world of wine and wants to obtain an internationally recognized wine qualification\nYou are employed in the drinks and hospitality industries and have little prior knowledge of wine in general\n\n\n WSET Level 1 Award in Wines Prerequisites\nStudents must be 21 years of age by the date of the course. \nThere are no prerequisites to this course. \n\nCourse Outline\nIn this course\, the following topics will be covered: \n\nThe main types and styles of wine\nCommon wine grapes and their characteristics\nHow to store and serve wine\nThe principles of food and wine pairing\nHow to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)\n\nThe link to the specifications for the course can be found here: \nWSET Level 1 Award in Wines Specifications \n\nAssessment and Certification\nThe WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is assessed by a closed-book examination that consists of 30 multiple choice questions\, to be completed in 45 minutes.  A minimum mark of 70% is needed to obtain certification. \n\nSchedule\nSunday\, October 19\, 2025; 9:00am- 5:00pm \n\nSix hours of instruction\n1 hour break for lunch\n45 minutes for assessment\n\n\nCourse Fee\nThe course fee for the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course is $399.
