An Evening with Melville Winery

Join us in welcoming Scott Sprague from Linara Imports for a five wine, guided tasting of Santa Rita Hills iconic Melville Winery on Tuesday, June 9th at House of Wine.
WHO IS MELVILLE WINERY? Melville Winery is a family-owned and operated estate winery in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation of Western Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, California, known for producing exceptional cold-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah grown exclusively in its own 120-acre estate vineyards.
The winery was founded in 1989 by Ron Melville, a Sonoma County grower with a reputation for high-quality grapes, particularly in Knights Valley. In 1996, Ron’s vision to cultivate cold-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah led him to establish Melville Vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills. His son, Chad Melville, joined him, and together they built the winery into one of California’s most respected estates.
Chad Melville, co-founder and head winegrower, has been at the helm for over 25 years. He emphasizes a hands-on approach to reflect the unique terroir of the Sta. Rita Hills. Chad’s mentor, Chris Whitcraft, influenced his whole-cluster winemaking style and respect for natural processes.
Melville’s farming team works closely with the winery to ensure each wine expresses the region’s cool climate and soil characteristics. The winery’s philosophy is rooted in full control from vine to glass, with a focus on sustainability, organic practices, and minimal intervention.
Melville Winery has earned acclaim for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah, with wines praised for complexity, depth, and authenticity. In 2023, it was named a Top 100 Winery by Wine and Spirits Magazine.
Today, Ron and Chad Melville continue to uphold Melville’s tradition of producing wines that are both critically acclaimed and deeply connected to the land. The winery stands as a testament to the family’s dedication to organic farming, terroir-driven winemaking, and the Sta. Rita Hills’ reputation as one of California’s premier cool-climate wine regions.
